The title of today’s post is in no way related to the outfit am putting on. I just wanted to share with you all a quote I stumbled upon during the course of the week. “All limitations are self-imposed” I kept pondering on this statement because I know that I let myself be a victim of self-imposed limitation. This is quite self-explanatory, but let me explain further.
Limitation is something such as a lack of ability or strength that controls what a person is able to do.
Self-imposed limitation could be things that weigh you down, it could be the masks you choose to wear.
I lay on my bed most times or rather wen in a serene environment, ideas could pop into my head, then I also get scheme on how to carry out that idea and bring it into reality but then a negative thought creeps, I start doubting myself like “are you sure this will work out” “what if something goes wrong” and many more. By this time I just let go of every idea I had thought out. I Love taking risk but sometimes I let myself be overwhelmed with those negative thoughts.
Self-imposed limitation is tied to many issues here are a few and ways to overcome it, mentioned therein
Self esteem
Self-imposed limitations is basically tied to a person’s self-image. How do you see yourself? Do you have a low self-esteem? When you have a low self-esteem, the expectations you have towards yourself gets really low. A lot of people perceive me as this over confident girl whose self-esteem is on some high level, some stare at me in amazement when I tell them I got esteem issues and all. Mehn I got to be sincere with you I have some insecurities and sometimes I tend to look down on myself.
I’ve realized that being too critical on yourself doesn’t help. Don’t compare yourself with others and refuse any negative self-talk
Laziness
Laziness also plays a big role in self-imposed limitation. When you always think you have time, you find yourself procrastinating and procrastinating then laziness chips in until you realize you no longer got time and then you quit and give silly excuses why it didn’t work out in the first place.
The ants are a good examples of hard work, with little they got they store up food during the summer in preparation for the rainy day. Proverbs 6 v 6 says take a lesson from the ants you lazy bones, observe it ways and become wise
Proverbs 24 v 33-34, 6 v 10-11 says a little sleep a little folding of the hands, so shall poverty come as one that travelled, and thy want as an armed man.
The company you keep
When you associate with the wrong set of people you will have no room for improvement and there will be no motivation. The type of company you keep ascertains the type of thoughts that fill your mind. Keep the right company. It’s better to hang out with people better than you, pick out friend whose behaviour is better and you’ll see yourself drift in that direction. As The bible says evil company corrupt good manner.
Determination
Be determined, if there is a will there is a way. Imagine situation (we are only imagining here guys ha-ha) where your room is on fire and your door has refused to open and the only route is your window, what do you do? I guess you’ve already answered that.
Your mind set
Have a positive mind set. Feed your mind with good and encouraging thoughts there is a saying that half bread is better than none, but why should you settle for half when you can have a loaf, why settle for a loaf when you can own a bakery.
We all know of this quote a patient dog eats the fattest bone. Hmm in this country Nigeria, this one no apply oo (it doesn’t apply), you say you are waiting, my dear you go waste oo (you will waste)
They say all fingers are not equal, are you a finger?
So what is your thinking mentality like? As the bible says as he thinketh in his heart so is he.
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
“Overcoming limitations can be done by realizing that life is short and every minute counts”
